About Harrison Lives

MichaelHarrison is the first name of a character in a Kurt Vonnegut short story I read in college, a young fellow who didn’t want to become part of the homogenized society he lived in, didn’t want be controlled by the Handicapper General.  I  choose to spend a part of my time “railing against the setting sun” and reveling in the differences among us.  That’s what this is about.  That, plus my love of politics.

I’m a former elected office holder and government official. I also did a stint as a political speech writer, and made a living in politics and government service. When my penance was over, I did trial work for 15 years as an attorney.

Today, I write. My day job is as a software engineer and web copy writer, and that finances this hobby. Words are my life. Well, words, my family, my Alaskan Malamute, Boston Red Sox baseball, good food, travel (mostly to my Dublin office), motorcycle riding and other stuff. But, words are definitely a big part.

I am available for writing assignments, including speech and ghost writing, and as a web site guest columnist. I am hopeful, too, that these columns will be picked up in syndication somewhere and that I will make some cash money for my writing.
