Lumberg, The Liar and Today’s News
Not sure if these remarks were actually made, as my source is a little suspect. However, it might have gone something like this . . . . . . .
“Umhhh, yeah, General, I’m gonna need you to go ahead and go over to Congress and tell ‘em we shouldn’t make any decision on troop withdrawals. Ummhh, yeah, that would be great, so just go ahead and go do that, then.”
Petraeus on Tuesday recommended that troop withdrawals from Iraq be paused for 45 days after July when U.S. forces in Iraq will be reduced to 140,000.
Bush accepted this recommendation Thursday, saying Petraeus will “have all the time he needs.” Asked whether further reductions could resume after the pause, Petraeus told lawmakers earlier this week that future troop levels should be based on conditions on the ground.
“Yeah, like who’s gonna argue with that? None of ‘em are gonna grab a gun and go over there themselves. None of ‘em are gonna look as good in a flight suit as I did when I landed on that carrier. That was cool. I wanna do that again while I’m still Commander in Chief. Never did that when I was in the war, ya know . . . Vietnam . . . back when I was in the National Guard.”
Bush’s progress report on Iraq comes after he met with Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, and Ryan Crocker, U.S. ambassador to Iraq.
“This is awesome. Nice going there, General. I got me some time now. That takes us to September, earliest, so we’re really then into like October. The election is like just one month after that, and I’m outta here in January. Ya know, with the holidays and everything, I’m pretty much done in December.”
“Yeah, yeah, that’s the ticket.”
Bush is set to head to Texas later Thursday for a few days of rest at his Crawford ranch.
Lumberg, and The Liar. Office Space and SNL. Great characters from a funny movie and a funny bit. Am I the only one who sees a little of each in this guy?
